VALID REGISTRATION OF ALL NEW MOTORCYCLES, GOING ON THREE YEARS NOW! – LTO
Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Tugade ORDERS the implementation of three years validity or validity of the registration of all new motorcycles in the country.
Based on the current rule in accordance with Republic Act 4136 and Republic Act 11032, motorcycles with engine or engine displacement of 201cc and above only have three years validity of initial registration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
However, following a study done by the agency, LTO Chief Tugade decided to make a three-year validity of the registration even for motorcycles with engines of 200cc and below.
“It is hereby directed that initial registration of brand new motorcycles with engine displacement of 200cc and below shall be valid for three (3) years,” saad ng Memorandum Circular No. JMT-2023-2395.
“It is understood that the MVUC to be collected during the initial registration shall likewise be adjusted to cover the corresponding registration validity period,” ayon pa sa Memorandum.
This is still part of LTO’s steps aimed at speeding up processes and facilitating public transactions in the agency.
“We do not see any roadworthiness problem of motorcycles with three years registration because these are new vehicles,” LTO Chief Tugade stated.
“We at LTO believe that this step will help many drivers register a new motorcycle for use in their daily pursuits or jobs,” the official added.
Based on past LTO data, an estimated two million newly registered motorcycles 200cc below will benefit from the new policy this year.
“This is proof that your LTO listens to the suggestions of the public who is directly transacting with the agency. Studies will continue on existing policies and regulations and if it needs to be changed for the betterment of the system, we are ready to do so,” assures LTO Chief Tugade.
Also in accordance with the existing rule for the registration of other vehicles, after the three-year validity of initial registration the registration of motorcycles with engine 200cc below will also be annually.
The memorandum is effective on May 15 of this year.
